Our Internship
Program
Our roster of student interns is a dedicated team of hardworking young people who are committed to the arts in their community. Our internship program provides out-of-school student experiences to nurture youth development through arts training, college and career preparedness, and social-emotional skill building.
Using a holistic approach, we offer critical arts opportunities outside of school for our student interns. These experiences build their social/emotional competencies through the arts. We also offer support to students through paid work experiences and mentorship opportunities that empower their self-expression and build valuable skills to propel them through their future endeavors.
Student interns receive training, participate in running the day-to-day operations of The Palmetto Theater and the Stanley Arts Center, work on community projects, attend quarterly field trips, and practice setting and achieving realistic goals with the support of caring, trusted adults. Student participants deepen their arts learning, hone transferable skills applicable to college and career, begin to build their professional networks, and identify potential careers that include viable pathways inside and outside the arts. Most importantly, they gain a stronger sense of direction, self-knowledge, and possibility for their futures.
Our interns advocate for themselves, and their community.
Our interns met with legislators and attended Arts Advocacy Day at the Statehouse in Columbia, SC as part of the SC Arts Alliance's Student Ambassador (SA) program. They have also made presentations before the Hampton County Council.
Our Interns are Leaders.
Senior Intern Von'Taisha Scott has worked closely with our chamber of commerce this year and made the opening remarks at this year's Hampton County Candidates Forum .
Our Interns are college and career ready!
Our interns handle to daily customer service needs of our venues as well as being exposed to a wide variety of careers and opportunities in the arts and beyond.
